Abel Sanchez and The Madness of Doctor Mantarco are great reflections on art (and these stories are adequately discussed in other reviews) but my personal favorite was San Manuel Bueno, Martyr. At $95 for the hardcover book, it's overpriced. Instead, so many are so ready to assign the label of heretic, while judging worthy of hell, anyone who does not share their exact doctrinal understandings. This is a must-read for anyone facing adversity or challenges in their life, small or large. BUT, I think they are worth reading so you might want to hold out.All of the stories included in this book take place sometime during the Passion (I think?) novel, over one particular Valentine's Day.
