It is a sultry August at the very end of the twentieth century, and Tristano is dying. A hero of the Italian Resistance, Tristano has called a writer to his bedside to listen to his life story, though, really, “you don’t tell a life…you live a life, and while you’re living it, it’s already lost, has slipped away.” Tristano Dies, one of Antonio Tabucchi’s major novels, is a vibrant consideration of love, war, devotion, betrayal, and the instability of the past, of storytelling, and what it means to be a hero.Sometimes bitter but also frequently lyrical, this latest book by Tabucchi is deeply skeptical about the power of art to console the pangs of our mortality. This kind of reasoning shows the universal truths that Scripture contains, thus demonstrating it's relevance for us today. It is, but it is also for anyone who wants to make their life better by adopting a new way of thinking about how they are doing business. The author has Chrohn's Disease that took a real toll on her life, personal and business, for 13 years. It was not a promising start, but they did become playmates. WOW !!! This book was long overdue. But, I will say if you're interested in the Chesapeake Bay region and American history there is a good information.. This is the beginning of a new story arc. I feel a lot of the blame is unfairly being put on the authors whHer translated books include Mario Rigoni Stern's Giacomo's Seasons (Autumn Hill Books) and Giulio Mozzi's This Is the Garden (Open Letter Books).
