The final chapters deal with data analysis, with an overview of basic probability & statistics, uncertainty analysis, signal characteristics, and digital signal analysis. *******Text is available as of 5/21/2004!******** Dunn's Measurement and Data Analysis for Engineering & Science places emphasis on the process of experimentation, rather than the products of experimentation. Dunn’s objective is to expose undergraduates and experimentalists to the essential tools of experimentation, to the scientific detail behind these tools, and to the role of experimentation in the scientific process. This gives users a chance to put their basic skills to work in actual engineering experiments, which are taken from a variety of engineering subject areas. MATLAB "sidebars" are used to present MATLAB, and associated M-files are provided on the Web site.. Hardware issues are then presented, with a focus on measurement systems, and calibration & response. Following the text chapters, a full laboratory manual, with an introduction and twelve lab experiments, is included. Guided by worked examples, MATLAB sidebars, and laboratory exercises, the reader builds a strong working knowledge while moving progressively through the text. The first three chapters of the text cover

U of Minnesota. It literally saved me days of work (the answers could be found in an hour).. Captures esoteric information in an easily understandable way.. Most non-engineers aren't used to thinking that way -- there's a tendency to jump directly to visualizing machines doing human-like things, without appreciating the layers of complexity those behaviors entail -- so this will be a good mind-opener for many readers. I read this book while in the early stages of preparing an undergraduate course on the law, ethics and social impact of robots. Still, this book should provide good introductory background not only for social science undergrads, but also for general readers: a worthy addition to the VSI series.. But then again the things he was saying about the future I am starting to see in the new papers I guess I would have liked more hands, it really is a "Very Short Introduction".. While social, cultural and economic impacts of robots aren't the main focus of this book, it does touch on ethical issues, including a brief but nice critique of Asimov's Three Laws. It's got a nice balance between the current state of the art and possible futures, with an admirable sense of restraint. I found myself dog-earing the corners of a lot of pages with the intent of going bac
