He then compares them to progress of different projects in the robotics world, asking how close we've come to the original sci-fi vision, and of what differs, why.It's a fun tour of some of the field's better poster-bot/children, and the interviews with some of their creators are quite interesting.The real gold for me though, was in some of the conjecture and philosophizing that Meadows does in considering implications of robotics near future. This is especially true when looking at the borders between hardware and software which he sees little distinction. First-off, this is a much smaller book than I was expecting. The copyright page describes the cover photo as showing "troops traveling on Pullman cars." This is clearly not the case and is instead the description of the photo which precedes Chapter 1. There are other indicators of less-than-stellar publishing practices. This is a decent book, but the idea that you get a good idea of how to convert your own van to a camper? Not even close. For example, the epigHighly recommended.. This magnificent memoir is filled with photographs of various types of locomotives hauling military movements and wartime freight in the US, plus passenger trains turned troop carriers
